On March 10, 2020, a national closure of schools was implemented in Paraguay as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The country was one of the first nations in Latin America and the Caribbean to follow this strategy. Days later, various other countries were also closing schools. As of August 1, 2020, at least 144.9 million children and teenagers had been affected by the contingency measures in the region. More than 122 million of the students were enrolled in primary and secondary schools at the time.
