In 2019, the highest poverty rate in Romania was registered in the North-East region of the country, at around 41 percent, however, by 2022 it dropped to 26.2 percent, making South-West Oltenia the poorest region. By contrast, the western part of Romania had the lowest poverty rate in the country, at 14.4 percent.
