MENA: leading cause of debt among Arab youth by cause 2020

The results of a survey in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in 2020 about the Arab youth showed that the largest share of Arab youth respondents were in debt in 2020 due to student loans at about 26 percent of respondents, followed by 20 percent of respondents who were in debt due to car loans.

The survey question was as follows: "What is the main reason for your debt?", showing percentage among those currently in debt.
The study was conducted in in two parts:
The first part was The Main Survey conducted in 17 countries between January 19 and March 3 2020 before the coronavirus outbreak with a count of 3,400 face-to face interviews, Covered countries were Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Yemen. Syria and Sudan were recently added to the latest year's version of the survey in 2020. Each country had 200 respondent. Margin of error for this survey was +/-1.7 percent.
The second COVID-19 Pulse Survey between August 18 and 26, 2020 following the COVID-19 crisis with a count of 600 face-to-face and online interviews divided equally between six countries: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, Algeria, and Egypt. Margin of error for this survey was +/-4.0 percent.
All respondents were exclusively citizens of their countries and they were 50% male and female.
