The results of a survey in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in 2020 about the Arab youth showed that the highest percentage of respondents of 40 percent believed that the social unrest and protests in the MENA region in 2019 were due to corruption and bad governance. This was followed by lack if quality jobs with 29 percent.
Opinion of Arab youth on the reasons behind the 2019 social unrest in the Middle East and North Africa in 2020
The survey question was as follows: "What do you think are the main reasons for the social unrest and protests that took place around the region in 2019? Please choose up to three reasons."
The study was conducted in in two parts:
The first part was The Main Survey conducted in 17 countries between January 19 and March 3 2020 before the coronavirus outbreak with a count of 3,400 face-to face interviews, Covered countries were Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Yemen.
Syria and Sudan were recently added to the latest year's version of the survey in 2020. Each country had 200 respondent. Margin of error for this survey was +/-1.7 percent.
The second COVID-19 Pulse Survey between August 18 and 26, 2020 following the COVID-19 crisis with a count of 600 face-to-face and online interviews divided equally between six countries: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, Algeria, and Egypt. Margin of error for this survey was +/-4.0 percent.
All respondents were exclusively citizens of their countries and they were 50% male and female.
