According to a survey conducted in 2020, the highest share of around 25 percent of higher education institutions in Japan stated that they would conduct half of their classes face-to-face and the other half as online classes in the second semester in 2020. About 24.6 percent would carry out 70 percent of classes online due to the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.
