Based on an analysis of cyber insurance claims submitted in Europe in 2019, financial institutions and other financial service companies suffered the most cyber incidents. This industry accounted roughly one-fifth of cyber insurance claims in that year. In total, the four most-affected industries accounted for 50 percent of the cyber insurance claims submitted in Europe in 2019. Generally, cyber insurance is designed to protect businesses from risks arising from the use of data and technology in business operations.
