Christmas trade revenue change in Sweden 2020, by scenario

Depending on what the coronavirus situation will be like in Sweden in December 2020, the country's total Christmas retail trade revenue numbers may differ significantly: based on the assumption that trade can be open and that customers are safe to go and stay in stores (scenario 1), total retail trade revenue may increase by about five percent this Christmas, compared to last year.

Other scenarios

If much tougher restrictions are to apply in December 2020, with many closed stores and store visitor limits (scenario 3), Sweden's retail revenue numbers could decrease by more than ten percent. Scenario 2, which is the main scenario of the Christmas forecast, assumes that consumers will, to some extent, refrain from consumption due to the spread of the coronavirus infection and restrictions, either linked to shops or as a result of meeting fewer people, for example during Christmas and New Year. In this case, total revenue growth would amount to roughly one percent.
