Working hours lost in East Africa during COVID-19 pandemic Q1-Q4 2020
As of the fourth quarter of 2020, there was an estimated loss of nearly 4.2 percent in working hours in East Africa, seen as an impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the second quarter, the estimate was higher, at 14.6 percent. In the same period, stricter measures to contain the spread of coronavirus were in place, like curfews and the closure of borders and businesses. Overall, working hours in Eastern Africa declined by 7.2 percent in Easter Africa as of 2020.
