The power sector in Poland emitted 750 grams of carbon dioxide per kilowatt-hour (gCO2/KWh) of electricity generated in 2020. Projections show that in 2050, Poland's power sector will emit an estimated 37 gCO2/KWh. Poland's high carbon intensity is due to the power sector's reliance on coal. Poland is home to the Bełchatów lignite-fired power plant, the most polluting power plant in the European Union.
