Number of visits on takealot.com 2020-2023

In November 2023, the South African e-commerce platform takealot.com counted some 17.5 million visits worldwide. That month, over 90 percent of the visits were registered in South Africa. From January 2020 onwards, the number of visits peaked in November 2021, at almost 15 million visits. The revenue of the Takealot group increased significantly in 2021. The platform generated 392 million U.S dollars in revenue in 2020 and 606 million U.S. dollars in 2021.

Leading online marketplaces

Based on the monthly number of visits of e-commerce platforms in Africa as of April 2021, Takealot.com ranked second with just over 10 million visits. Jumia, the online marketplace founded in Nigeria, led the ranking with 23.3 million registered visits. Observing the main companies in Africa by market capitalization, Naspers, a multinational holding owning various e-commerce subsidiaries, ranked first. Its outstanding shares had a market value of over 104 billion U.S. dollars. One of the subsidiaries of Naspers is Takealot.com.

Steady increase in revenue Naspers

 In 2015, the merge between Takealot.com and Naspers-owned e-commerce platform Kalahari.com was successfully completed. Three years later, the parent company increased investment in Takealot.com to 96 percent. The revenue of Naspers increased steadily between 2013 and 2022. Between the period considered, the revenue of the global internet and media company registered an increase of approximately 28 billion U.S. dollars.
