In the fiscal year 2023, East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd. and West Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd. jointly reported the highest traffic volume among toll road companies in Japan, with around 2.97 million vehicles per day on their toll fee chargeable expressways. Central Nippon Expressways followed with 2.03 million vehicles per day. Japan's formally privatized expressway companies are the successors of former public corporations operating the country's vital highway routes.
