According to a survey conducted in October 2020, just over 20 percent consumers in the United States said they would spend more during this year's holiday season if they were to receive a federal stimulus payment of 1,200 U.S. dollars. Without the assistance, only about 15 percent of U.S. shoppers would be planning to spend more this year. Approximately half of the respondents intend to spend the same amount, with or without a stimulus payment.
