Americas: coworking space capture rate 2020, by market

Coworking, in which several self-employed workers or companies share the same office space, is on the rise. In the 2nd quarter of 2020, the coworking footprint accounted for 8.1 percent of the total office market in Buenos Aires. In other cities in the Americas, such as Rio de Janeiro, coworking space accounts for only a small share of the total office market. The coworking footprint refers to the space available for coworking in a city.

Freelancers often take up a coworking space to perform their work. In Latin America and the Caribbean, more than one third of the employed population was self-employed. In the United States, around 57 million people were working freelance in the same year.
