Chile: number of human rights violations victims 2019-2020, by gender and age

From October 2019 to March 2020, a series of protests took place across Chile, triggered by the raise in transport fares in capital city Santiago, and related to other underlying social issues, such as high living costs and inequality in the country. The situation escalated as the Chilean Army forces were deployed across the main regions, to help maintain the order. In this period, more than 2,500 human rights violation complaints were filed in Chile, referring to over 3,000 victims. Nearly 60 percent of victims registered in the complaints were adult men, while 621 victims were adult women.
