Romania's budget deficit as a share of GDP 2011-2024
A budget deficit occurs when a country, business, or an individual has spending that is greater than the revenue received over a specific period, usually measured as a year. Romania's budget deficit accounted for 6.6 percent of the country's GDP in 2023 (the third highest in EU), followed by a decrease to 4.53 percent as of August 2024 which was approximately 80 billion Romanian lei.
