The beginning of re-confinement at the end of 2020 was marked by controversies in France, over the closure of some businesses, which were deemed as non-essential by the French government. The French had indeed a rather negative opinion of the list of non-essential businesses forced to close during containment, and a majority of them even considered that this list had been dictated by certain lobbies. More than a third of the voters of Emmanuel Macron's party shared this opinion.
