For 59 percent of the Africans, the economic and political influence of China in their own countries was somewhat positive or very positive between 2019 and 2020. Similarly, 58 percent considered as good the external influence from the U.S. By contrast, Russia's influence was evaluated as positive by 46 percent of Africans, while 24 percent classified as somewhat negative or very negative the influence of the former colony (the United Kingdom, France or Portugal).

The survey was done in the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tunisia and Uganda
Respondents were asked: "In your opinion, which of the following countries, if any, would be the best model for the future development of our country, or is there some other country in Africa or elsewhere that should be our model?"
