The U.S. was for 32 percent of Africans the best model for the development of their own countries. China followed, mentioned by 23 percent of the respondents. For 11 percent, the former colony (the United Kingdom, France or Portugal) would be a better development model, while other 11 percent cited South Africa.

The survey was done in the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tunisia and Uganda
Respondents were asked: "In your opinion, which of the following countries, if any, would be the best model for the future development of our country, or is there some other country in Africa or elsewhere that should be our model?"
