As of 2018, 637,200 metric tons of maize were produced in Ghana. This was the highest production level registered in comparison with other food crops cultivated in the country. Rice followed, with 416,000 metric tons. By contrast, carrot, which is considered an exotic vegetable and which has a higher value and demand in urban areas, yielded a production volume of 1,000 metric tons. Overall, some of the presented crops are exported to the neighboring countries of Ghana.
