As of 2023, Jin Jiang International Hotels had 12,448 hotels in operation in China. In comparison, the second leading hotel company Huazhu Hotels Group recorded a total of around 9,394 hotels in China, up from approximately 7,830 in 2022.
Jin Jiang International
Headquartered in Shanghai, the state-owned hospitality enterprise Jin Jiang International was a China Fortune 500 company for nine continuous years since 2012. Though most of the company’s hotel properties were located in China, Jin Jiang International expanded its business globally by acquiring Radisson Hospitality and Louvre Hotels Group. In 2018, Jin Jiang International ranked as the third-largest hotel group based on the number of hotels in the European Union.
Chinese hotels seek opportunities abroad
Chinese investors are keen on purchasing overseas high-end hotels. In 2019, Chinese hotel management company Huazhu Hotels Group spent more than 800 million U.S. dollars on the purchase of Deutsche Hospitality. Back in 2016, the Chinese conglomerate HNA Group bought Carlson Hotels and later sold it to Jin Jiang International. Investing in international hotels helps the hotel chains to enhance their global ranking and meet the needs of the ongoing trends for outbound tourism in China.
