Provisional government expenditure on social benefits in Ghana 2020-2023
As of the second quarter of 2023, government expenditure allocated to social benefits was some 221.7 million Ghana cedi, around 18.55 U.S. dollars. In the second quarter of 2020, it reached 112.71 million Ghana cedis (GHS) (approximately 9.8 million U.S. dollars). To help ease societal burden due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Ghana in that period, the government canceled bills for lifeline electricity users in the country for specific months, and this may account for the rise in expenditure.
