Latin America: share of alcohol consumers 2019-2020, by beverage type
Both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, beer was the most frequently consumed alcoholic beverage in Latin American and the Caribbean. According to a survey carried out in the region, beer was consumed by 52.3 percent of respondents who consumed alcoholic drinks in 2019. While this figure decreased by 3.6 percentage points between March and June 2020, beer was still by far the favorite. In comparison, the second favorite beverage – wine – was consumed by 21.8 percent of respondents in 2019. The beverage gained popularity during the pandemic, with the share of consumers increasing by 7.5 percentage points during the period analized in 2020, when compared to 2019.
