In 2020, roughly half of Dutch consumers aged 18 to 35 stated they have started shopping on their own as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and the social distancing rules that stemmed from it. Approximately six out of ten Dutch shoppers aged 55 and over have started doing the same. Before the days of COVID-19, only about a quarter of young people in the Netherlands would go shopping alone.
