The number of computed tomography (CT) scanners in Japan increased by 469 scanners (+3.32 percent) since the previous year. While the growth is slowing down, with 14,595 scanners, the number of CT scanners is at its peak in the observed period. Notably, the number of CT scanners continuously increased over the last years.
The computed tomography (short: CT) scanner can be described as a computerized x-ray machine. Instead of one single, fixed x-ray beam in the conventional x-ray machine, there is a motorized, rotating x-ray source which is processed by the machine's computer into cross-sectional images. These so-called 'slices' contain far more detailed information than conventional x-ray images.
