Beer accounted for roughly 12 percent of alcohol consumed in Tanzania as of 2016, while other alcoholic beverages had an approximate share of 86 percent. Homemade and informal drinks dominate local drinking habits. In fact, Tanzania is one of the African countries with the largest share of illicit/informal alcohol sales.
