While a substantial proportion of French people purchase second-hand products or is willing to do so, this is not the case for the entire population. Among the reasons given by the French people surveyed in 2018 to explain the fact that they do not buy such products, hygiene seems to be an important concern. In the Southeast region of France, 76 percent of the respondents reported not buying second-hand textiles, linen and footwear because they had concerns about the hygiene of the product, compared with 56 percent in the Southwest.
