Fixed-line broadband internet providers' market share in Hungary 2024
In the second quarter of 2024, Magyar Telekom accounted for the largest share of the Hungarian broadband internet market based on the distribution of subscriptions, especially in the non-residential segment. Vodafone ranked second, accounting for 20 percent of the residential and 24 percent of the non-residential market.
Broadband connections in households
As of 2024, almost all Hungarian households had internet access. According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, in 2023, over 90 percent of connected households in the country had fixed broadband internet, and a further 87 percent of households were provided with mobile broadband connections. In the third quarter of 2024, the volume of fixed broadband internet download traffic reached more than 1.97 thousand petabytes.
Internet users' demographics
As of 2024, there were approximately 8.5 million internet users in Hungary, and their number is expected to increase further, peaking at 9.3 million in 2029. When it comes to internet users’ demographics, in Hungary, in 2022, the highest rate of internet usage was recorded among the population aged between 26 and 40 years, measuring at 99 percent. At the same time, 67 percent of Hungarians between the ages of 66 to 70 years old were internet users.
