Fixed-line broadband internet providers' market share in Hungary 2023
In the second quarter of 2023, Telekom accounted for the largest share of the Hungarian broadband internet market based on the distribution of subscriptions, especially in the non-residential segment. Vodafone ranked second, accounting for 21 percent of the residential and 24 percent of the non-residential market.
Broadband connections in households
As of 2021, almost all Hungarian households had broadband internet access. According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, in 2022, nearly 90 percent of connected households in the country had fixed broadband internet, and a further 77 percent of households was provided with mobile broadband connections. In the second quarter of 2021, the volume of fixed broadband internet traffic reached more than 1.7 thousand petabytes.
Internet users' demographics
As of 2022, there were approximately 7.6 million internet users in Hungary and their number is expected to furhter increase to 7.65 million by 2026. When it comes to internet users’ demographics, in Hungary, in 2021, the highest rate of internet usage was recorded among the population aged between 16 to 20 years, measuring at 98 percent. At the same time, 66 percent of Hungarians between the ages of 56 to 70 years old were internet users.
