For the 42nd week ending on October 18, 2020, total demand for edible goods (excluding fresh goods) in supermarkets in the Netherlands was approximately ten percent higher, when compared to the same period one year ago. The total edible goods department includes various categories, including general food, frozen, and beverages.

**The source adds the following information: "the IRI CPG Demand Index™ provides a standard metric for tracking changes in spending on consumer packaged goods. It measures weekly changes in consumer purchases, by value sales, against the year-ago period. The IRI CPG Demand Index™ is calculated from point of sales data of measured retail channels which include supermarkets inclusive of online sales."

The source also specifies that an index level lower than 100 indicates a decline in demand, while a level higher than 100 indicates growth.
