In 2020, roughly 6.22 million people from the German labor force participated in professional development courses. By far the largest part of those (4.4 million participants) was completed by employees, while 659,000 self-employed persons participated.

The figures depicted in this statistic from the Federal Office of Statistics are based on the microcensus number, which in Germany is annually surveyed with a selection rate of 1 percent of the population. The results of the microcensus are then projected to the basis of the key figures of the current population. More information on the method can be found in the original source (page 4).
