Nearly 59 percent of surveyed smokers in Tanzania thought cigarettes were expensive as of 2018. The high prices were pointed out by 68.4 percent of the smokers as preventing them to consume more tobacco. Moreover, roughly 50 percent admitted they would quit smoking if cigarette prices were to double. According to the survey, there were by the same period more than two million smokers in Tanzania.

According to the source, "the data was weighted to conform to the latest available population figures from the 2012 Population and Housing census projected for 2017. The 4,797 unweighted cases corresponded to approximately 29.6 million adults aged at least 15 years in the country".
