The consumption of smoked tobacco products in Tanzania in 2018 was more common among people aged 65 years and older (13.3 percent). By contrast, the prevalence of smokers among young people (15 to 24 years) was the lowest one, at 2.5 percent. According to the survey, the number of Tanzanian smokers amounted to more than two million as of the same year.

According to the source, "the data was weighted to conform to the latest available population figures from the 2012 Population and Housing census projected for 2017. The 4,797 unweighted cases corresponded to approximately 29.6 million adults aged at least 15 years in the country".
The source explains that: "the smoked tobacco products assessed in the survey included manufactured cigarettes, hand-rolled cigarettes, kiko, cigars, and shisha", adding that "Current tobacco smoking includes both daily and occasional (less than daily) smoking."
