In 2023, the most ordered ordinary steel product in terms of weight were hot-rolled strips, with around 19.8 million metric tons of orders. On the lower end of orders were hot-rolled sheets with about 0.04 million tons. In total, the orders received increased to roughly 58.95 million tons.

As regulated by the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS), ordinary steel is carbon steel, which does not require heat treatment and contains silicon, manganese, phosphor, or sulfur. Special steel, in contrast, is steel alloyed with other elements like chromium, nickel, molybdenum, or vanadium and has received heat treatment.
