Mobile and fixed voice traffic: growth and decline in Europe 2011-2019

With the increasing supply of internet-based voice application usage and the ongoing decline of traditional voice communications, it is not surprising that Europe, between the years 2011 and 2019f*, saw an increase in mobile voice traffic and a decrease in fixed voice traffic. For example, in 2011 the mobile voice traffic in Europe was 955 million minutes and in 2018 the mobile voice traffic increased to 1,246 million minutes with a 2019 forecast of 1,271 million minutes. Whereas, the fixed voice traffic cut more than half of its minutes with a progression from 745 to 363 million minutes in 2011 to 2018. However, this does not necessarily mean that there is an overall decrease in voice communication, but rather a transition of voice traffic to other mobile platforms that use data and internet.
