In 2018, out of around 8,566 caretakers of children in Ghana who had a positive attitude toward physical punishment in the education of children, 59.1 percent were females. This represented a high of 11.1 percentage points compared to male care-givers who had the same attitude.
As of the same year, Ghana placed second to Yemen in the global corporal punishment ranking. Overall, although corporal punishment in school has been prohibited by the Ghana Education Service and existing child protection laws, it still remains one of the most common forms of child violence in the country at large.
