In 2020, the main barrier to sustainability for over one third of Romanian small and medium-sized enterprises was the lack of financial resources, followed by the lack of consumer or customer demand. Management's refusal for sustainable development accounted for only two percent of the SMEs.

In this report, SMEs are considered to be companies that have less than 250 employees, and have a turnover less that 50 million euros.
