Leading e-commerce shops in Hungary in 2022, by net sales

In 2022, emag.hu, the online marketplace, and kifli.hu, the online FMCG retailer, operated the most successful online shops in Hungary, based on net sales value. During the considered year, emag.hu reached 230 million U.S. dollars in online sales, while kifli.hu followed in second place with 137 million U.S. dollars.

Which segments generate the highest e-commerce revenue?

  In 2022, online retail generated over two billion U.S. dollars’ worth of revenue in Hungary, and this figure is forecast to follow an increasing trend over the upcoming years. As of 2022, electronics proved to be the leading segment accounting for the highest revenue share. Beauty, health, personal & household care came second, while fashion was the third largest online retail category in Hungary. Electronics is expected to remain the leading segment by 2027, however, fashion is forecast to increase its online revenues and take second place in the ranking.

Online FMCG retail is still a growing trend in Hungary

  Grocery shopping is one of the many aspects of people’s lives that underwent accelerated digitalization as a consequence of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Grocery retailers source an increasing amount of their revenues from online orders and Hungary is no exception. Even though online sales channels still only accounted for approximately 2.3 percent of the total FMCG sales value, 22 percent of Hungarians ordered their groceries over the internet in 2022.
