The hydrogen market in the United States is expected to have production costs between 1.28 U.S. dollars and 2.16 U.S. dollars per kilogram in 2030. Steam methane reforming (SMR) hydrogen is forecasted to cost 1.28 U.S. dollars per kilogram, while electrolytic hydrogen is projected to have the highest production cost, at 2.16 U.S. dollars per kilogram.
The U.S. hydrogen market is forecasted to generate some 140 billion U.S. dollars and offer 700,000 jobs in 2030, assuming an ambitious deployment scenario.

The source assumes natural gas prices in 2030 at 4.59 U.S. dollars per million British thermal unit and adds:
* Capture cost of 66 U.S. dollars per metric ton of carbon dioxide, storage cost of 20 U.S. dollars per metric ton of carbon dioxide and transportation cost of six U.S. dollars per metric ton of carbon dioxide.
** For electrolytic hydrogen it is assumed 20 thousand normal cubic meters per hour, approximately 43 thousand kilograms per day. Electrolyzer capex includes stack and balance of plants. An additional cost of 25 percent capex is assumed for installation costs.
