Usage rate of avalanche victim detectors in off-piste skiing in France 1993-2018
Avalanche Victim Detectors are increasingly being used for off-piste skiers who are victims of avalanches. These detectors make it easier to find victims buried under avalanches.
This detector emits waves at a particular and unique frequency over a distance of up to 80 meters. These detectors are valuable and make it easier to locate victims. In case of an accident of such naure, the time before being rescued is crucial for the victim's survival: after about 20 minutes under the snow, the chances of survival drop sharply.
