In an online survey, conducted in June 2020, 76 percent of respondents stated that COVID-19 countermeasure implementation for restaurants was important to them in their consideration to visit Japan for tourism. Asian respondents had in general higher expectations regarding COVID-19 countermeasures, with responses for each destination averaging 10 to 15 percentage points higher than was the case for their counterparts from Australia, Europe and the United States.

Target respondents were women and men aged 20 to 59, with experience in foreign travel from Asian and European countries, as well as the U.S. and Australia.
This graph shows the percentage of participants who responded "I definitely think so" and "I think so" in regard to various destinations that they feel require COVID-19 countermeasures in their consideration of whether to visit Japan for tourism.
All items had to be assessed by selecting one of the five answer choices.
