In the fiscal year 2024, the passenger payload distance of East Japan Railways Company (JR East) amounted to approximately 119.7 billion passenger-kilometers. With its tracks spanning more than eight thousand kilometers, JR East is the leading railway operator in the north-western region of the main island called Honshu. The company was incorporated after breaking up the state-owned Japanese National Railways (JNR) in the 1980s, achieving full privatization in 2002.
