According to a survey published in 2020, Facebook was the most popular social media among Italians to follow museums, galleries, and similar cultural institutions online. Moreover, this platform was especially used by interviewees from the Islands (Sicily, Sardinia). About seven in ten respondents from this macro-region claimed to use Facebook to check the online content published by museums. Furthermore, roughly half of respondents from the South followed museums and similar cultural institutions on Instagram.
