Most used payment methods in physical POS worldwide in 2024, with a forecast for 2030

Digital or mobile wallets payment was the most used payment method in physical shops in 2024 globally, and is set to become even more popular by 2030. This is according to estimates that defined "digital wallet" in their broadest form possible. Figures include wallets that allow for card payments on a mobile device (e.g., Apple Pay, Google Pay - in this context used in contactless/tap to pay/mobile proximity payments), but also stored value wallets (e.g., PayPal, Alipay, when used in a brick-and-mortar shop) or mobile money wallets (e.g., M-Pesa in Kenya).
