In Peru, wages in trademark-intensive economic sectors were 25.1 percent higher than in non-trademark intensive sectors in 2019. In Mexico, the share stood at 4.7 percent. In Latin America, Brazil was the country with most trademark applications and registrations in 2018.
Wage premium in trademark-intensive sectors in selected countries in Latin America in 2019
The source defines an economic sector as trademark intensive when:
- the number of annual registered trademarks per employee in the sector is higher than the average ratio corresponding to the whole economy,
- the number of annual registered trademarks per unit of sales in the sector is higher than the average ratio corresponding to the whole economy. The source calculates the wage premium as "average wage in trademark-intensive sectors / average wage in non-trademark-intensive sectors."
