As of 2021, approximately 3.91 percent of all female employment in Ghana referred to self-employed women, a minor decrease from 3.92 percent in the preceding year. Since 2006, the share of female employers has remained around four percent.

The source defines employers as "those workers who, working on their own account or with one or a few partners, hold the type of jobs defined as a "self-employment jobs" (i.e. jobs where the remuneration is directly dependent upon the profits derived from the goods and services produced), and, in this capacity, have engaged, on a continuous basis, one or more persons to work for them as employee(s).

The source explains that these data estimates are "based mainly on nationally representative labor force surveys, with other sources (population censuses and nationally reported estimates) used only when no survey data are available".
