Uruguay: industry & innovation development goal performance 2019, by indicator

One of the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) developed by the United Nations was named industry, innovation, and infrastructure, which is based on a country's progress in technology and sustainable innovative contributions. In 2019, Uruguay outperformed in some indicators while lagging in others. As of that year, the South American country was on track for 2030 on the area of digital access, with a larger amount of mobile broadband subscriptions than its total population and over 68 percent of its inhabitants using the internet. But with just 0.36 percent of the country's GDP being invested into research and development, the country was critically lagging in this goal's area. That same year, Uruguay had the fourth highest Global Innovation Index score in the Latin America and the Caribbean region, with 34.32 points.
