The ninth objective of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) created by the United Nations was named industry, innovation, and infrastructure. With around 60 percent of population subscribed to mobile broadband and nearly the same share of internet users, Panama showed a moderate performance in this objective in 2019. Nonetheless, the Latin American country has critically lagged in the amount of indexed scientific or technical articles in journals, with only 0.04 indexed articles per one thousand people. That same year, Panama received a Global Innovation Index score of 31.51 points out of 100, down from the 32.37 points scored a year prior.
