In 2021, the Van Gogh exhibition: "The Resonating Souls of Helene and Vincent" held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum recorded the highest number of visitors in Japan, with about 308 thousand people visiting during the 78 days of the showing. Art exhibitions were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to considerably lower visitor numbers compared to pre-pandemic levels.
