Value added and sales of the home appliance industry in Europe 2017-2022

The total direct and indirect value-added of the household appliances industry in the European Union countries exceeded 79.7 billion euros in 2022. According to the Statista Consumer Market Outlook the European household appliances market is forecast to reach revenues of more than 97 billion U.S. dollars in 2023.

Europe is home to major home appliance companies

Some of the largest and best-known home appliances manufacturers are headquartered in Europe, for example, the German household appliances companies BSH Group and Miele. Other major home appliance companies in Europe are SEB Group from France and the Swedish appliance manufacturer Electrolux. Many of these companies operate appliance manufacturing sites in Europe, with Italy leading the way with 42 of the 240 European sites located in the country. The broader home appliance industry employs more than 2020 thousand people.

Major appliances lead market in value and volume

Major appliances account for a higher share of revenue and unit sales in the European home appliances market than small appliances. In 2022, sales of major appliances in Europe achieved more than 51.6 billion U.S. dollars in sales, around ten billion U.S. dollars more than revenues from small appliances sales. Unit sales were also much higher for major appliances, with more than 109 million pieces of major home appliances sold in Europe during that year. The top categories in the segment were washing machines, refrigerators, and dishwashers.
