Latin America: SDG Index by objective 2022

In 2012, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development carried out in Rio de Janeiro created 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for all countries to achieve before 2030. In 2022, Latin America and the Caribbean had its highest average index score in the SDG objective regarding climate action, having scored 93.1 points out of 100. By comparison, affordable and clean energy scored 79.3 points. The region had the most challenges in the field of reducing inequalities, with an index of about 23.3 points. With over 78 points, Chile had the best SDG index score in the entire region.

The SDG Index describes countries progress towards achieving the SDGs. The overall SDG Index score and scores for individual SDGs can be interpreted as a percentage of optimal performance. The difference between a country’s score and 100 is therefore the distance, in percentage points, that needs to be overcome to reach optimum SDG performance. The same basket of indicators is used for all countries to generate the SDG Index score and rankings. The score scales ranges from 0 (worst) to 100 (best) points.
