According to a survey conducted in Japan in 2020, about 34 percent of respondents agreed to some extent that the budget of the government and municipalities should be preferentially distributed to the promotion and protection of art and culture in the country. Around 43 percent, on the other hand, opposed the idea of art and culture being prioritized in the budget distribution.
